QuickBooks Green
I was just reading an article discussing QuickBooks being “green”. I understand the “going green” mantra but what confuses me is that it is not marketed as “saving green”. We constantly read that we can save the planet and make it clean for zillions of years of human inhabitance and to that I would normally say “Who Cares!”.
Many of my clients prefer to receive email invoices and statements, some prefer fax, and others want it snail mail style. My attempt as a business owner is to convert as many as possible to email and fax (it could be electronic so no paper used). Is my goal in this to save the earth? I am sorry but it has nothing to do with that green and everything to do with the green dollar. As a small business I constantly struggle to make sure there is enough money to make payroll and pay taxes. After those are paid then I can pay the bills and maybe reinvest in my business. To do that I have to find ways to save even 44 cents (is it still 44 cents for a stamp?) to keep the business moving.
So we currently email invoices and statements to roughly 100 clients. Just based on a 44 cent stamp is $44 in savings per mailing to those clients (based on one mailing). That does not include the cost of printing, the consumables, and the time to pay someone to print and stuff the envelopes. So yes QuickBooks can help you go green but more importantly it can help you save green.
