Well after a bit of reading and research I found something that could replace Google BrowserSync - Weave. It is just in the beginning stages of its life (version .2). I think I will install it soon and see how it works.
Microsoft Equipt
Equipt which includes Office Home and Student 2007, Windows Live OneCare, Office Live Workspaces, Windows Live Mail, Live Messenger and Live Photo will soon be available for an annual subscription of $69.99. It is scheduled to begin selling in the US on July 15th.
I think that is not a bad deal for home users. I am not a big fan of the Live OneCare product but to get those products at that annual price is a good value.
Yes I know I stopped posted for a few days - the wife and I flew to Washington DC for a short vacation. It was a good visit and I expect to go back with the kids in a few years.
Humyo
Read an interesting article about Humyo and the free 30GB of online storage. 25 of the 30GB has to be media files like music and video. I know people like to store a lot of data. I have not had much need to store that much data online. That is not to say that some day I will not need it. Probably means I just have not thought of what I could use it for.
Google Collaboration
I have slowly added documents to my Google Docs library. Mostly spreadsheets of information about websites or computer installations. I have considered these files to be available for collaboration and have even shared a few with my wife but none of them were what I would call true collaboration files. Now I have one and it is very cool.
I started a spreadsheet with websites listed on them. I need to know if they have a signature in the footer of the page. Then Amanda (one of our web developers) helps me go through each site and confirm they have a signature or not. There are a few other things I want to track with the spreadsheet like if the site has Google Analytics and other things that have not occurred to me yet. I really like the feature that sends a report on what changes were made that day so I know that work was actually done on the file.
I am quite excited about finding files to collaborate on. I normally just do it all myself.
Social Networking
Well Facebook surpassed MySpace last month. I did MySpace for a little bit and did not care for it. What I have recently discovered was a site called LinkedIn. Very interesting business networking site. I have read several articles on the site and if utilized correctly could be a great business tool. I am going to stick with it for a bit to see if I can use it like it should be used.
Outlook Customized To-Do
Well with the wife and kids at a family event in Louisiana this past weekend I took some time to get some things off my list. I also spent some time to organize my list.
I had been over a bunch of online To-Do lists with my wife a few months back so I started with a popular one - Remember The Milk. It did not fit what I needed.
Next I tried a program I recently read about called FusionDesk. I put a few items in and like it but knew it would not satisfy my needs.
Next - Outlook. Yes I know you say I am an Outlook nut so why was I not using Outlook to begin with. Simple - it did not do what I wanted and I had not customized it to do what I wanted. My customization was so simple that I hate myself for not doing this years ago. First I reduced the number of categories in Outlook from about 15 to 9. Then I added one custom field in tasks called “Level”. Then I transferred a small number of my To-Dos to Outlook. I customized my view to sort by category, then level, then due date and a few tweaks with colors and fonts.

This gives me something closer to what I imagine as a real To-Do list for me personally. I may end up adding a few more custom fields but I am not sure at this point. I then spent time moving my OneNote lists to Outlook. Then my Google lists to Outlook. Then my unsorted email messages into Tasks.
I am not sure how many people have insane To-Do lists like me but it helps with organization. Specifically being able to rank my tasks into more than just the three built in levels (important, normal, low). So I know everything in level 1 and 2 should take most of my time while the lower levels can be postponed as needed.
Firefox 3 - Second Experience
Well I finally installed Firefox 3 at work and only had to install it once. It worked perfectly the first time. I lost more extensions at the office than I did at home but I am sure I will not miss them given the pleathora of feature improvements in the new version. Now I need to get everyone else in the office upgraded.
Firefox 3 - Search Passwords
A neat little feature now available in Firefox 3 - Search for Passwords.

I could have used this feature two weeks ago when I had to hunt the entire list of saved passwords in my Firefox for one website password. Now I can find it without scrolling through one by one.
Go to Tools/Options. Select the Security icon and click on the Saved Passwords button. Very helpful new feature.
Google Docs - PDF Uploads
Google Docs recently added PDF uploads as a feature. While you cannot safe new files as PDFs yet - at least you can share PDF files with others in your Google contact list.
Firefox 3 - My Experience
I was very excited about the release of Firefox 3. I download it the night it was released at my home laptop. I then installed it. It never opened so I rebooted. It still would not open. No Firefox process showed up in Task Manager. I downloaded and installed again - same problem. I downloaded it a third time and then it installed and opened. I am not sure if it was my computer or I was not waiting long enough but I was frustrated.
Now that I have it at home I really like it. I was surprised by all the new features some of which you can read about on their website here. I only lost two extensions at the house and I have not missed them yet. I have more extensions at the office so I have not upgraded there yet.
On a possible world record note - it was downloaded over 8 million times during the first day.
